Officials of the Ministry of Public Health have committed to improving reception, and the quality of medical care in public health facilities in Cameroon in 2020.
The decision was arrived at during the annual conference of central and devolved services of the Ministry of Public Health in Yaounde on February 20, 2020.

Reflections held on the theme, “Agenda for the transformation of the Cameroonian health system: time to act”
Public Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie told public health administrators, “The health sector is strategic, sensitive and determinant”.

Five key issues discussed include:
1) Improving human resource management
2) Retirement and wages system
3) Medical products
4) Health financing
5) Leadership and governance
The transformation train
Based on the ministry’s earmarked transformational agenda, the officials agreed that universal health coverage must be effectively implemented from 2020.
Administrative ethics and the deontology of the nursing profession will also be at the centre of the practice , but it will be monitored as early as graduates leave school.
The Minister said tips on professionalism will be particularly dished out to young professionals once they are deployed to the field.
The transformational program also gives room for the capacities of health personnel to be strengthened with the result based approach as a yard stick.
To improve the ministry’s governance, the leadership and governance projects, will see the revision of framework No 96/03 of 4th January, 1996.
This will also require that most regulatory texts be updated.
These innovations will be extended to professional associations which will have to align their mandates and capacities to the requirements of the health sector.
