#237vote: CPDM grabs all 13 seats at legislative rerun

The constitutional council has proclaimed the results of the March 22, 2020 legislative election rerun in parts of the North West and South West region. The president of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana in the presence of members of the Council proclaimed the results that mark the end of the electoral process for the election of Members of parliament.

He began by presenting the statistics on the participation of votes in the partial election.

General Statistics of March 22, Legislative rerun

Constituencies Concern: 11 in the North West and South West regions.

Registered voters: 423 664

Voters: 40 233

Absences: 383 431

Participation rate: 9.5%

Null Ballots: 332

Valid votes: 39 901

CPDM party won an absolute majority and consequently all 13 seats in the rerun of elections of Members of the National Assembly. Six political parties took part in the race.

The President of the Constitutional Council saluted the conduct of the election, stating that it respected the regulation as spelt out by the laws governing elections of Members of the National in the electoral code.

The electoral Process

The electoral process which began with the concerning of the electorate following the cancellation of the polls of February 9 in the 11 constitutions featured, two weeks of campaign prior to voting day.

The local voting counting committing within polling stations counted the votes and filed their report to the Divisional Supervisory Committee that compiled the results and forwarded them to the National Vote Counting Commission that finalised the counting process before sending its final report to the Constitutional Council.

The council then heard post election litigations that saw all 12 petitions filed by the SDF Council declare inadmissible.

The 13 elected Members of the National Assembly will join their peers at the lower house of parliament to complete the number of parliamentarians to 180.

However their credentials have to been verified and their attributes given before they official join the deliberations in plenary.
