The President of the Republic, Paul Biya has offered a special gift to all 360 subdivisions in Cameroon to boost the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Presidential Gift is composed of products for hygiene and medical kits estimated at two billion CFA francs.
The products include:
– 50,000 cartons of laundry soap (four million pieces of soap),
– 1,500,000 face masks for the population,
– 50,000 surgical mask for health personnel,
– 40,000 hand washing cans of 30 litres each,
– Rapid screening test kits,
– Respiratory devices for hospitals.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji announced the special gift of the President of the Republic this Monday, April 20, 2020 via a press release.
The Minister indicated that “this special gift should not be mistaken for actions of the Special Solidarity Fund created by the Head of State on the sidelines of this pandemic”.
The special gifts has been described as testimony of the Head of State’s legendary generosity towards his compatriots especially during natural disasters and crisis.
A hundred heavy duty trucks will transport the special gift from the Yaounde City Council in ten days.
Regional Governors will be in charge of overseeing the channelling of the hygienic products and medical kits to the subdivisions, the Minister noted.
He also instructed local authorities to intensify sensitisation against the COVID-19 while distributing the gifts to the local population, especially vulnerable people who are the main beneficiaries.
Teams from the Department of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Territorial Administration will be dispatched to the regions to assist in the sensitisation campaigns.
The campaigns, the Minister highlighted will insist on government’s combat measures as communicated by the Prime Minister – Head of Government.
