Common Entrance Results Published With Averages

For reasons of transparency the Minister of Secondary Education Prof. Nalova Lyonga during a meeting with Regional Delegates, on July 6, 2020, exhorted heads of schools to publish results with final grade averages.

For the past years some schools have been publishing Common Entrance Examinations and Concours D’entrée En Sixième’s results with grade averages which were not obligatory.
However, for the past 3 years the Ministry has been using a program known as “Spider” which does not include grade marks.

To ensure transparency, Minister Nalova Lyonga has instructed heads of schools to start publishing Common Entrance results with grade averages again, a decision which has been followed to the letter this session.
The program “Spider” has been removed from all the marking centres at the request of the Minister of Secondary Education.

With this system, parents are able to know the grade average their children scored during the Common Entrance Examination, as compared to the previous years. This has been greatly appreciated by many. Noela Fonyuy is one of the parents satisfied with this system.

” I am happy as results were published with students’s averages this year. At first the results were divided into list A and B but this year I was able to see my second Child’s marks.
She had 14 average and I’m overwhelmed”

Although the decision was lauded by many, others were surprised to see the names of successful candidates with the lowest’s marks published. This include 7/20 and 8/20.

” It is true that showing the average of each successful candidate is good but it is going to frustrate others who have lower marks. For instance if my child wrote to school at Government Bilingual High School Mendong and I want to change. The average may disqualify him or her to be admitted into a different School”
Christabel Egbe, a parent, relates.

It should be reiterated that, the procedure is aimed at bringing a change and transparency in this category of exams.
