Diplomacy: Equatorial Guinea And Cameroon Finalising Cross Border Security Agreement
A Cameroonian delegation led by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence, Joseph Assomo accompanied by the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella and the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka have traveled to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea for another round of discussions.
The delegation traveled on the instructions of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya and that of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to hold follow up consultations between Defence Ministers of both countries.
For two days, July 20 and 21, 2020 delegation from both countries will finalise consultations in view of signing a cooperation agreement between the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of Cameroon.
During the Malabo discussions focus will be on putting in place mechanisms for coordination and joint action in the areas of defence and cross border security.
The meeting is a follow-up to similar consultations that was held in Yaoude from June 29-30, 2020.
Leaders of the two countries validated the resolutions reached in Yaoundé before scheduling the Malabo meeting to finalise the cooperation agreement.
Resolutions At Yaoundé Consultations
Delegations from Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea agreed to continue meaningful fraternal border control to minimize skirmishes along their common borders.
Cameroon’s Minister Delegate in Charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo and the Minister of Defence for Equatorial Guinea, Alejandro Becale Ngoco signed an accord on border control.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to significantly strengthen partnership in the areas of defence, security and cross border exchanges.
Both parties also agreed to enhance training, intelligence and the fight against cross-border crime and other threats.
