Back To School 2020: Textbooks Will Be Available

 

The National Council for the approval of textbooks and didactic material met on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, with publishers and editors who have promised to prepare for a hitch free school year.
The Publishers promised to make sure all the textbooks will be available before the start of the academic year in October 2020.

Will All The TextBooks Be Available?

Officials explain that the list of textbooks approved by government for nursery and primary schools was published on March 9, 2020 and for secondary schools in May so as to give publishers time to be ready before the 2020-2021 School year. The National Council for the approval of textbooks and didactic material also paid a working visit to publishing houses nation wide to see if the dateline and the directives given are respected so as to make sure the one book policy is successful. The book commission says a good number of Cameroonian publishers have taken measures to meet up with the dateline and those still behind are working tirelessly to do so.
The permanent Secretary of the National Council for the Approval of Textbooks and Didactic Materials, Prof. Mvounda Etoa during the meeting called on publishers to ensure that books are available in all the parts of the Country. He also reminded those printing books out of the country to have a warehouse in Cameroon so that distribution will be easy.

The council has also been working with publishers and bookshops to reduce the prices as a means of facilitating the availability and accessibility of textbooks.

Some textbooks have been changed following the new pedagogic approach in writing books which has been prescribed by government starting this year. The changes in primary schools this include nursery, Sil, CE1 & CE2, CM1& CM2 and for secondary schools 1er and lower sixth.
The meeting held on September 9, 2020, was also an opportunity for publishers to talk about some difficulties they face on the field.
