Kumba Massacre: Inter-Ministerial Delegation Visits Buea and Kumba

The President of the Republic has condemned the killing of seven children and injuring of 13 others in their school in the Fiango neighbourhood in Kumba of the South West region. The President’s message was published only this Monday, October 26, 2020.

Presidential Condolence Message

“I learned with great sadness of the horrific murder of several students of the Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in the town of Kumba.

I condemn in the strongest possible terms this barbaric and cowardly crime against innocent children.

I have also instructed that appropriate measures be taken diligently to ensure that the perpetrators of these despicable acts are apprehended by our Defence and Security Forces and brought to justice.

I address my full solidarity and sincere condolences to the bereaved families as well as the educational community. I join my wishes and the deepest empathy of my Wife for the prompt recovery of the injured.”

The condolence from the President of the Republic was read in Kumba by the Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai.

It was read during a meeting with the inter-ministerial delegation of three member of government and official of the defence and security forces and the affected population in Kumba.

The delegation dispatched on the instructions on the President of the Republic, made their first stopover in Buea where they handed over the President’s condolence message to the Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji leading the delegation composed of the Minister of Secondary Education, Pauline Nalova Lyonga and the Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa described the incident as horrific.

They said the hideous crime was committed to create fear and prevent students from going to school but “enough is enough”.

They called on the population to work in synergy with defence and security forces to guarantee security in the North West and South West regions.

During their visit at the Buea Regional Hospital, they assured parents that government is taking care of all the hospital bills for the children affected by the incident.

The delegation also held a security meeting with administrative, defence and security authorities in the South West region.

Discussion focus and evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the attack and the guarantee of security in schools and the entire south West region.

During a meeting open to the public at the Kumba council hall, the population and the education community of tighter security measures to ensure a hitch free 2020/2021 school year.
