Sports Activities To Take-off Amid #COVID19

Not more than 200 persons, be it participants or spectators are expected to be present in any sporting event in Cameroon as a result of the ravaging effect of the ongoing #COVID19 pandemic.

This is contain in the decision of the Prime Minister and Head of Government who has uplifted the suspension of the sporting activities in the country, since the month of March 2020.

Reinforcing the decision of the government, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has called on the Presidents of Sports Federations and Associations to be the main actors in the implementation of this decision.

The main sports man has sounded a warning to those who will go against the instructions of the government.

To minimise the chances of a continuous spread of the Coronavirus, the sporting events will be carried out in strict respect of the barrier measures and robust #COVID19 preventive measures put in place by the government of Cameroon in collaboration with the WHO.

Just to note that, the government has for sometime now implored and introduced healthy security measures most especially simple hygiene moves in public spaces and in sporting facilities.

All persons in public spaces must wear a facemask and undergo temperature checks after a thorough hand wash tradition.

On March 17, 2020, the government of Cameroon through its Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute employed strict #COVID19 measures, with a temporal suspension of public gatherings with over 50 persons. This decision led to the ban on sporting event in the Cameroon by the Sports Minister.

On Wednesday July 29, 2020 Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi ordered for the temporal suspension of collective sporting activities in the country as the number of the #COVID19 victims kept increasing.

In the press document signed July, Wednesday 29, 2020 the Minister reiterated that it is an obligation for everyone to scrupulously respect safety measures laid down by the state of Cameroon and the WHO.

He has called on sports managers, proprietors of sports facilities and physical fitness sites amongst many others to put a stop in the practice of sports and physical activities until further notice.

Football matches, holiday championships and other crowd pulling sporting events that can propel the fast spread of the virus have been cancelled until the recent decision to reinstate them.
