World Food Day: Cameroon Celebrates With A Commitment To Food Sufficiency

The 40th edition of the World Food Day has been celebrated in Cameroon with exhibition of food items and an open day at the National Museum in Yaounde.

The event was celebrated under the theme “Grow Nourish, sustain.

Together our actions are our future amidst the COVID 19 pandemic that has sparked an alarming surge in the level of hunger worldwide.”

They indicated that the provisions of data of agriculture, access to markets and transformation as essentials in sustaining and giving value to the agricultural chain.

The representative The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Yaounde highlighted the urgent need to strengthen food systems as covid-19 drives up numbers of hungry people worldwide.

They called for action to improve the systems that produce and distribute the food, so that they can better withstand shocks including the COVID-19 pandemic.

The World Food Day celebration was presided over by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe.

The Minister of courage farmers to cultivate variety and in large qualities as the population of the continent is expected to double by 2020.

He said government has taken measures to ensure food security through various programmes put in place by governments and its partners.

The ceremony was marked by a visit of the exhibition stands where different varieties of foods were on exhibition.
