CAF : Issa Hayatou Tipped As Honorary President

The Executive Meeting of the Confederation of African Football, CAF held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 sent a proposal to the CAF Ordinary General Assembly of December 11, to grant Cameroonian born Issa Hayatou, long time serving president of the CAF, a status of an Honorary President of CAF.

The executives of the continental football powerhouse after reviews found Issa Hayatou worthy of good governance.

The 74-year-old man has a wealth of experiences after serving CAF for over thirty years, that is , 1987 – 2017 when he lost the elections to the Malagasy man, Ahmad Ahmad who grabbed 34 of the 54 votes .

Issa Hayatou may just be the right man at the right place considering the recent corruption and administrative scandals plaguing the African football watchdog, CAF


A renowned football personality in African and international football, the Cameroonian born, Issa Hayatou who hails from Garoua was saluted by the CAF Executives for his development of African football

Issa Hayatou temporary served as FIFA’s President in 2015 when Sepp Blatter faced the legal bench on counts of corruption and unethical practices.

He is presently the board chair of the National Football Academy, ANAFOOT, created in 2014 by a Presidential decree to ensure the growth of professional football in Cameroon.

He is serving here alongside Carl Enow Ngachu, pioneer head coach of the national women’s football team, who is now the General Manager of the ANAFOOT.

Issa Hayatou goes down history as the longest serving president of CAF, with a ground breaking record of 30 years at the helm of the football house.
