Catholic Church: Pope Francis appoints Bishop Samuel Kleda into the Dicastery of Human Development

The Archbishop of the Douala Archdiocese, His Grace Samuel kleda has been appointed into the Holy See Dicastery in charge of promoting integral human development.

This news was mad known by the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Julio Murat in a meeting of bishops on Friday, January 15, 2021, in Bafang, in the Upper-Nkam division.

Mgr. Samuel kleda henceforth joins the team of the high pontiff’s advisers on health related matters in the Roman Catholic Church.

The Dicastery which is governed by Cardinal Peter Turkson was created on January 1, 2017 by Pope Francis to replace for “Justice and Peace”.

It is a service whose main mission is the pastoral care of migrants and people on the move, but also the pastoral care of health services.

Bishop Kleda’s appointment is clear of his enormous contributions to the fight of the coronavirus pandemic through his remedial treatment to infected persons.

His Grace Samuel Kleda was received in audience by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, who congratulated and encouraged him on behalf of President Paul Biya for his efforts in the fight against the pandemic in Cameroon.

Bishop Samuel Kleda, former president of the Episcopal Conference of Cameroon was born in 1959 in Golompwi, a locality of Cameroon located in the Mayo-Danay division of the Far North Region.

He was ordained a priest in March 1986 for the Archdiocese of Garoua in the North region.

From 2000 to 2007, he was bishop of Batouri. In 2009, he became Archbishop of Douala.

The 62 years old man also chairs the National Episcopal Council.
