Multinational Joint Task Force Assist Schools in Lake Tchad

The escalation of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2014 has greatly impacted life in the lake Tchad Bassin, the Far North Region of Cameroon inclusive.

The education sector is hardest hit with thousands of schools destroyed by the terrorists especially in Mayo Sava, Mayo Tsanaga and Logone and Chari divisions at proximity with Nigeria.

Whole communities have fled for their lives while some 192 schools have been forced to shut down.

The locality of Michidire in the hinterlands of Logone and Chari division just like Touchki in Mayo Sava epicentres of the insurgency also served as hideouts for the terrorists.

The setting up of a Multinational Joint Task Force by Member countries of the lake Tchad Bassin Commission has enabled the”cleansing”of the hideouts.

For the last three years, the project for the restoration of peaceful coexistence and social cohesion among communities affected by armed conflict in the lake Tchad zone has been taking care of the psychosocial reintegration of the communities.

In the same vein, the Multinational Joint Task Force has been facilitating a return to normalcy while encouraging the resumption of classes in the hitherto red zones.

To this effect the Commander of Sector 1 of the the MNJTF by Brigadier General BOUBA DOBEKREO has led operations to build and equip classrooms in Touchki and Michidire which were recently handed over to the the beneficiaries.
