COVID19: Government’s Response Strategy revisited at PM’s Office
Members of the Inter Ministerial Committee to Monitor Government’s Response Strategy against COVID19 have resumed activities in Yaounde after 6 months of recess.
The recent resurgence of the COVID19 pandemic which has seen a rise in the number of new infections in the country prompted the holding of a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute.
The session examined preconditions for the introduction of vaccination against the disease and also the launch of communication strategy to raise awareness.
COVID19 Prevalence in Cameroon
Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute indicated that after months of stagnation, the COVID 19 infection rate has taken a sudden upward turn in Cameroon. Statistics indicate 3,284 new cases this week against 1906 recorded on the 24th of February.
The Centre Region has over a thousand new cases, the Littoral 777 while the Adamawa, The East, The North West and West Regions count over a hundred new cases each.
The inter-ministerial committee meeting reinvigorated the campaign against the disease to prevent the upsurge from blowing out of proportion.
Modalities for Introduction COVID 19 Vaccines
The Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachi explained to members of the committee the envisage modalities for the introduction vaccines against COVID 19 in Cameroon. He presented the technicalities surrounding vaccination against COVID 19 for the committee to scrutinise.
The session also examined strategies to launch widespread communication and awareness rising concerning the pandemic. The Minister Communication, René Emmanuel Sadi resource person in the domain indicated that public broadcasters, community radios and various associations shall be used to drive home the message of protection, prevention and testing against COVID 19
Response Strategy
The Governor of the Centre Region, Naseri Paul Bea also presented the situation of the pandemic in his region and strategies to enhance the measures prescribed by government.
Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute instructed members of government and officials of the administration to each launch anti COVID dynamics at their different levels to quell the upsurge and prevent another disaster. It was particularly recommended that public broadcasters, (CRTV and Cameroon Tribune) intensify communication.
