Indecency in Schools: Government and Female MPs begin addressing the problem
Following a series of obscene acts involving students from some secondary schools in Cameroon, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, Secondary Education Minister and Female Members of Parliament (MPs) have began addressing the problem.
A meeting to discuss the problem was organized on March 21 in Yaounde with Secondary Education authorities, Female MPs and students from some schools in attendance.
It was important for the attendees to put an end to indecent acts staged by students of some secondary schools.
Although the officials acknowledged that students have been misled by social media and peer pressure, Prof. Nalova Lyonga says parents must be involved in educating their children.
“We have to make the parents come back to their responsibilities and communities must be those that educate the children and not destroy them.”
The female MPs say the problem can be effectively addressed if teachers and the government work together.
Students take the Lead
All student representatives who attended the meeting were exhorted to be ambassadors of uprightness in their various schools. The students were called upon to also be involved in seeking solutions to this growing ill.
The ambassadors of uprightness are expected to actively take part in educating their peers on the dark side of the social media and harmful effects of consuming drugs.
Keeping children safe online is a key priority for the government and the female MPs who say they are looking forward to crafting laws in Parliament that restrict students from accessing obscene sites and using some online applications.
Kicking out drugs from schools is also a primary concern for the administrators and female MPs.
