COVID-19: Council of Medical / Pharmacists and Medical Doctors Recommend Vaccine

The National Order of Medical doctors and The National Council of Pharmacists of Cameroon have encouraged the government to introduce vaccination against COVID19 in order to protect vulnerable groups and reduce the spread of the disease in the country.

The presidents of the two bodies made the call during an audience with Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute accorded them in Yaounde.

The audience was part of consultations initiated by the government to sample the opinions of partners and stakeholders on the best way of orientating the fight against the COVID19 pandemic in Cameroon

Faced with the preoccupying resurgence of the pandemic since March 2021, the government has undertaken a number of consultations with partners to exchange on the best way of orientating the response strategy in Cameroon.

During the audience Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute transmitted his congratulations to the medical corps in Cameroon for being at the front line of the fight against the pandemic via the Presidents of The order of Medical Doctors and that of the Council of Pharmacists.

The Head of Government also promised the full support of the government in providing personal protective equipment and other anti COVID paraphernalia.

While acknowledging the support of the government, the representatives of the medical and pharmaceutical corps pleaded on the governmwnt to introduce vaccination against COVID-19 in Cameroon. They said it is the most effective weapon against the pandemic on offer today.

Dr. Frank Dange Nana; President of the national order of pharmacists said Cameroon should follow the example of other countries that have contained the pandemic.

The medical representatives said Cameroon must not remain isolated at a time when many countries in the world have embraced vaccination against COVID- 19 with visible results.

The Presidents of the Order of Medical Doctors and the Council of Pharmacists added that even if introduced on a voluntary basis, vaccination will help protect online workers and persons with morbidities.
