2021 AFCON: CAF Delegation at Olembe Stadium

A CAF delegation led by the Director of Competitions, Sampson Adamu has visited and evaluated the state of progress of work at the Olembe Sports Complex ahead of the 2021 AFCON Draw ceremony scheduled for Friday, June 25, 2021 in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The delegation was accompanied by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the Centre Regional Governor, Nasri Paul Bea and the Interim President of FECAFOOT, Seidou Mbombo Njoya amongst others.

The emissary comes to Cameroon for a 3-day fact finding mission before the 2021 AFCON draw holds at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Addressing Cameroon’s top football officials and the administration, Sampson Adamu said a delegation to inspect exclusively infrastructure to be used used during the big football event will be in Cameroon between May 22 and 28, 2021.

The CAF top staff noted that construction work has to be terminated at the Stadium some five months before the kick-off announced for January 2022 in Cameroon

The representative of the MAGIL Construction Company on his part assured the Sports boss and football officials that the main stadium of the Olembe Sports Complex can host local and international football competitions in August and October respectively.

Stephane Rosignol was speaking during an evaluation meeting after the guided tour of the Minister of sports and his guests of CAF. He said the company has a work force of 786 staff while revealing that construction work is at 90% and the football facility will be completed in November 2021.

The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the state of advancement at the football edifice that will harbour not only football facilities but a five-star hotel, a commercial centre, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, three cinema halls and a museum amongst many others.

To the sports boss, the sophisticated football structure to host 60.000 seats has completely been transformed to football reference and will be amongst the best in the continent.

He invited the officials of the Canadian construction company to put in their best and help Cameroon in their mission of hosting successfully the 2021 AFCON.
