It is twenty years since mobile telephone networks were introduced in Cameroon. Twenty years down the lane, mobile telephone companies are thriving in the country.
At a three-day exhibition fair dubbed CAMMOB 2020 to commemorate the anniversary, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng highlighted the strides made by mobile networks.
That notwithstanding, the Minister highlighted some challenges which the Government is working on in order to improve the mobile telephone networks sector.
The first challenge the Minister mentioned is cyber security which already has devasatating effects.
Added to that is the management of scarce resources especially frequencies, a raw material needed for the development of mobile telephone networks.
The deployment of the fourth mobile operator in Cameroon is a major issue the sector will have to deal with.
Authorities say Cameroon needs to develop. This will facilitate the development of local telephone industries.
Beyond overcoming the current challenges, Minister Libom Li Likeng says consumer protection through good quality of services is pretty challenging, but will be given appropriate attention.
As concerns the introduction of the 5G network, the Posts and Telecommunications Boss insists that Cameroonians must adequately master the 4G network before the introduction of 5G.
