#CAHB2020: Host Cameroon humbles Kenya 40-16

Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, host of the 2020 Senior Women’s Handball African Cup of Nations grabs first three points in group B after humbling Kenyan ladies 40 handballs to 16 in the opening game this Tuesday at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Cameroon discovered her strength in defence just ten minutes into the one hour game and control every part of the encounter, recording 10 handballs to 3.

The frequent lapses in the Kenyan defense line was fully exploited by the Cameroonian goal keeper who frequently sent long balls in front helping to continuous widen the goal gap.

At first half, that is 30 minutes gone, Cameroon had 21 handballs while her guest, Kenya stayed at 8 for quite sometime

From every indication, Kenya showed signs of an improved team in terms of finishing though the East African ladies managed just to score eight times during the last thirty minutes of play making a total of 40 handballs to 16.

The resilience and professionalism earned one of the Kenya ladies, the Woman of the match between Cameroon the East African state.

Earlier in the game, Kenyan Ouma Valine Akoh recorded her third fault and was sent out with a red card

DR Congo beats Nigeria 35-16

Meanwhile, Nigeria lodged in Group B alongside Cameroon was edged by the DR Congo 16-35 in the first match of the day.

The DR Congo opened a 15 points lead over Nigeria by halftime at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Nigeria counts one trophy in the competition won in 1991 and their last participation in the tournament dates far back to 1994.

On Saturday June 12, 2021 Nigeria will throw weights with host, Cameroon in their second group clash.

Cameroon will in their third outing face off, the DR Congo while Kenya will hold hands with Nigeria still in a group B affair.

Accordingly, Senegal lodged in Group A will pick on Madagascar this Wednesday, June 10 at 2 pm. Cape Verde will later faceoff 13th time champions Angola in a group C clash at 4 pm.

At 6pm local time, Tunisia will clash with Guinea in the second group A tussle at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex here in Yaoundé.
