Olembe Stadium to host international matches as from September

The 60.000-seater capacity Olembe Sports Complex earmarked to host the opening and closing encounters of the upcoming 2021 AFCON will be ready to host national and international matches as from September 2021, this according to the top staff of the Canadian Construction Company, MAGIL.

The declaration was made this Thursday, June 24, 2021 during the weekly routine visits of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, President of the Local Organising Committee of the 2021 AFCON (COCAN), Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.

The Minister and his crew were assured that finishing touches are being done at the main stadium to ensure that matches can be fielded soonest without any fear of doubt.

According to an official of the construction company, the mild works at the football facility for the moment are the installation of the sound systems, the lighting of the stadium, the electrification process amongst many other things

A top staff, Yoann Ropital told Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi and Cameroonians no to worry because the difficulties faced in the past have been taken care of by the government.

He insisted that the stadium is expected to posses the largest number of camera outlets on the African Continent upon its completion.

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education was a visibly satisfied man at the end of the inspection tour of the annex stadium, the athletics lane, the media rooms etc.

The sports boss said the same spirit of team work has to be portrayed by the company so as to meet up with the various deadlines given to the state of Cameroon and the football powerhouse, CAF

Professor Narcisse Mouelle kombi insisted on the fact that all what CAF expects from Cameroon for Olembe to host the opening ceremony and other matches of AFCON 2021 should be ready before the end of October 2021.

He noted with a lot of fonfidence that the approval of the proposed Mascot, theme song, the inauguration of a temporal CAF bureau in Yaounde are just few of the many factors that Cameroon will host her AFCON and on the time schedule.

Just to note that, the Secretary General of CAF, Veron Mesongo said Cameroon will host the draw event of the 2021 AFCON during the month of August 2021 in Yaounde.

The Minister will visit infrastructure and facilities in the town of Garoua in the North of Cameroon earmarked to play host to the African Cup of Nations in January 2022.
