World Refugee Day: Magasco partners with UNHCR to Commemorate Day

Ace Cameroonian Afro Hiphop artist, Magasco is staging a concert on Facebook this June 20, 2021 to commemorate World Refugee Day in Cameroon.

The concert to go live at exactly 6pm is the artist’s way of showing solidarity with the over 440,000 refugees living in Cameroon.

“It is really with a lot of pleasure that I’m adding my voice to inform the world about what is going on and how we can put hands together to support all displaced people,” says Magasco.

The concert is also a platform to celebrate the courage and resilience of refugees.

This year’s World Refugee Day is focused on the need for inclusion for refugees under the theme “Together we heal, learn and shine!”

Other Commemorative Activities Lined up

Apart from Magasco’s concert, UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency is organising other activities in Cameroon to mark World Refugee Day.

Refugees were part of a Slam Workshop organised in collaboration with a Yaounde-based group of slammers for over a month. The product will be streamed on Facebook this Sunday, June 20, 2021.

An Urban Street Art Campaign has also been on-going with potraits of famous refugees in history, painted along walls in Yaounde.

An outdoor photo exhibition showing the year 2020 for refugees in Cameroon is also scheduled for the Yaounde City Hall.

Moreover, pupils who took part in a drawing competition received prizes on June 15, 2021.

Commemorative activities will culmimate in a special conversation café on the economic inclusion of Refugees in Cameroon which will be both physical and virtual on June 24, 2021.
