Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute has called on the members of the National Tourism Board to seize the opportunities offered by hosting of the Total Energies African Cup of Nations in January 2021 to uplift the tourism sector so that visitors will become brand ambassadors of Cameroon tourist destination once they return to their respective countries.The Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute was speaking at an extraordinary sessions of the National Tourism Board this Thursday July 22, 2021 at the auditorium of the Prime Minister’s office.
The Prime Minister in his capacity as chairman of board said the Total Energies AFCON2021 competition should be an opportunity to enhance Cameroon’s Tourism potential.
The Board is elaborated on strategies to help boost the tourism sector ahead of the continental football jamboree.
The session discussed on infrastructural development of the hotel chain, measures to beatify towns hosting the competition and also putting in place an efficient communication strategy.
The Minister of State, Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Maigari Bello Bouba in his presentation on the theme “Strategies for the promotion of tourism and leisure within the framework of AFCON, said lessons from previous competition will be capitalised.
Some actions ongoing and envisaged include rehabilitation and renovation of hotels, improve health services, Marketing of destinations on traditional and online media and other activities to project the image of Cameroon.
The Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam outline measures taken at the level of regional and city councils of host cities to improve hygiene and sanitation, electrification and security as well as the beautifying cities.
He also highlighted plans to improve intra and inter urban transportation as well as cultural Tourism especially in the West and with the involvement of traditional chiefdoms.
