Ancestry Reconnection: Cameroon to Welcome Remains of American of Cameroonian Descent

This September 1, 2021 will be a historic day in Cameroon as the remains of an American, Elinor Estelle Taylor McCollum will be buried in Cameroon, the country she has traced her ancestral roots to.

The event will be the first of its kind in Cameroon and a major success of the Ancestry Reconnection Program (ARP), brainchild of ARK Jammers Connection.

About the Ancestry Reconnection Program (ARP)

The Ancestry Reconnection Program (ARP) was conceived in 2010 by ARK Jammers Connection, an NGO in Baltimore, United States of America.

ARP aims at reuniting peoples whose ancestors were forcefully separated by slave trade.

The programme uses the DNA system to enable interested Afro-Americans trace their roots so as to have an identity and belonging.

ARP Cameroon 2021

The event ARP Cameroon 2021 is a weeklong activity to run from August 31 to September 5, 2021.

On September 1, 2021, the incinerated remains of Elinor Estelle Taylor McCollum will be buried in the land of her Tikar and Ewondo ancestors.

This activity will be coordinated by the traditional rulers of the Ewondo and Tikar in the presence of their people, thanks the initiative of renown Patriarch and Anthropologist, François Bingono Bingono.

It is worth mentioning that this burial is in fulfilment of Elinor McCollum’s last wish of being buried in the land of her ancestors.

September 2 will day for the launch of a book titled, “Grandeur et Vision du Peuple Bamoum: du temporel à l’intemporel”.

The book is an art piece on the ARK Jammers.

Prof Jean Emmanuel Pondi will be the Moderator of the book launch.

A roundtable will be organised on September 4 on the theme, “La Signification Spirituelle de la Reconnexion Ancestrale”.

It will be moderated by Journalist, Lazare Etoundi with a panel of guests to analyse the theme.

Worthy of note is the fact that this is not the first time that ARK (Acts of Random Kindness) Jammers is sojourning in Cameroon.

They were here from December 26, 2010 to January 5, 2011 on their first Ancestry Reconnection Program trip.

Their visit encouraged many other African-Americans to engage in reconnecting with their roots.
