FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2021 : Cameroon to host Tournament in 48 hours
In barely 24 hours, the 2021 edition of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament will take place in Cameroon’s capital city, Yaoundé.
The 27th edition of the tournament to be hosted by Cameroon for the second time, will see 12 participating teams from Africa compete for the trophy from September 18-26.
At the end of the competition, the two best teams will secure a place in qualifying tournaments for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.
The Basketball Lionesses of host country Cameroon, are currently in the last phase of their preparation, after a series of matches in Istanbul -Turkey in a booth camp early this month.
FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Groups
Cameroon is in Group A alongside Cape Verde and Kenya. Meanwhile, Nigeria, two times winner and current champion of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament is in group B.

The Tournament’s Timetable
Senegal and Guinea will play the opening game on September 18.
The group phase of the competition is scheduled to run from September 18-20.
September 21 : A day of rest
September 22: Qualification for Quarter finals
September 23 : Quarter finals
September 24 : Semi-finals
September 25: A Day of rest
September 26: Finals
The 2021 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket final will be played on September 26 at 18:00 local time. But, this will be preceded by the third-place play-off at 15:00 local time, same day.
All games will broadcast on the Cameroon Radio Television, but a recent press release from Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education says spectators will have access to the playground to watch the games.
