World Peace Day: Peace Ambassadors sent forth in GBPHS Yaounde

Some students of the Government Bilingual Practising High School (GBPHS), Yaounde have been sent out to the world as Ambassadors of Peace.

The over 50 Ambassadors were given the mandate at the end of a roundtable organised in prelude to the International Peace Day commemorated every September 21.

The event organised this September 20, 2021 was milieu for the students and the organisers, Arc of Peace and Junior Chambers International (JCI), to discuss ways of consolidating peace in the student community.

Mounting the rostrum, the Principal of GBPHS Yaounde, Robert Eko Sama hailed the roundtable.

The Principal explained that the subject, Peace, is timely especially in the present context where some parts of Cameroon have been hit by socioeconomic crises.

As a way to promote reflections on the subject matter, the students had earlier on taken part in an essay competition to answer the question: According to your knowledge and the books studied and read: What actions can you take in order to consolidate peace in your community (school milieu)?

Those who excelled in the competition were awarded prizes as well as those who participated.

One of the Lauretes, Dangela Atabongafack of Lower Sixth Science explained that she took part in the competition because she has suffered the consequences of the absence of a peaceful environment and hoped to successfully communicate the need to consolidate peace in the country.

The organisers explain that their focus is these students of the high school since they consist the future of the country and will serve as opinion leaders in society.

This September 21 is the 40th commemoration of the International Peace Day.

The theme of focus this year is, “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.”
