2021 TotalEnergies AFCON: An economic stronghold for Cameroon

When the 23 football teams and accompanying delegations will board plans to come to Cameroon in January 2022 for the continental football showdown dubbed AFCON, businesses will swell and the economy will experience a boom mostly in the domains of logistics, communications, transportation, leisure and tourism amongst many other activities.

Infact, the impact is already felt, the economy of Cameroon is gradually witnessing a slight shift as the host, Cameroon continue to endorse partnership agreements, sponsorship deals ahead of the 2021 AFCON to run from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in host cities of Yaounde, Douala, Bafoussam, Buea, Limbe and Garoua.

The Africa Cup of Nations is not only a football meeting point but a golden opportunity to grow businesses according to economic actors.

Many companies would like to use the continental event to brand their businesses and create a stable market in and out of Africa through advertisements, public relations, corporate social responsibility plans during the football tournament.

The tourism and leisure sector is gearing up for a boom. The various teams, accompanying delegates, visitors, fans, CAF delegates, media men will very much exploit services of hotels, social facilities, leisure joints and tourist sites.

The communication sector will be solicited by companies, enterprises, players, supporters amongst many others for call services, messaging, online transactions and more.

The AFCON has been described by many as a gateway to development taking into consideration the many projects the host, Cameroon has been carrying out for some years now. Be it roads, health facilities, hotels, football infrastructure and communication networks that have not only generated jobs but will help seduce investors and inevitable welcome tax payers.

Corporate bodies and businesses are setting the bars high, devising best income generating modules while some have expanded their outlets thus helping to strengthen the economy
