Lake Chad Basin Governors Resolve to Enhance Cooperation

The 3rd Forum of Lake Chad Basin Governors has ended in Yaounde with major resolutions tilted towards restoring the dignity of the populations of the affected region. The Recommendations of the forum were read out by the Governor of Cameroon’s North Region, Abate Edii.

The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development who chaired the close on behalf of the Prime Minister noted that the forum of Lake Chad Governors which is in its third edition is an illustration of community leadership and the common ambitions to go further.

He highlighted the need for human, material and financial resources and invited development partners to contribute to the giant projected invited to revamp the eight regions in four lake Chad Basin countries.

The Minister noted that Cameroon intends to contribute up-to one million USD to the process of transformation of the Lake Chad basin considering the impact of climate change and the role of women and youths in development.

The Closing ceremony was also marked by the adoption of the territorial action plans of each of the Governors in the four countries. The level of implementation of the plans will be evaluated during the fourth session of the forum scheduled for Chad.

The incoming President of the forum, Cameroon’s Governor of the Far North Region, Mijiyawa Bakari said focus during his mandate will be on cooperation, solidarity and partnership on the path to development.

The Head of the International Support Group and other stakeholders took turns to pledge their support to the project which is intended to end human suffering in the basin that is yet to recovery from sporadic boko haram atrocities.
