2021 TotalEnergies AFCON: “Toghu” is the name of the match ball
“Toghu”, a name of popular and embroidered fine multi-coloured traditional outfit of the people of the North West region of Cameroon has been designated as the match ball of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON to be organised in Cameroon between January 9 to February 6, 2022.
CAF made the public the news this Tuesday, November 23 through a video and a post on their social media platforms as the countdown to biggest African football feast keeps getting narrow everyday, everytime.
In five words, the continental football powerhouse qualified ” Toghu” as 𝗧radition, 𝗢rnate, 𝗚lory, 𝗛eritage and 𝗨nity.
The official ball will be used by the 24 participating countries from the five sub- regions of Africa when they touch down Cameroon and later to their host cities of Limbe, Buea, Douala, Bafoussam, Douala, Yaounde and Garoua where a total of 52 games will be fielded.
The match ball called ” Toghu” bares the CAF symbols, brand name of production company, and stripes in colours of green, red, yellow and white designs and embroidered
“Toghu” initially royalty in the North West region and one of the most imposing, and celebrated outfits in Cameroon has gradually but steadily gotten a name on the international scenes like the Olympic games, fashion shows, festivals amongst many other events.
The outfit today is a symbol of respect, beauty and honour and is worn by Cameroonians of all walks of life, persons from all the ten regions and cultural zones of the country, tourists and others.
The match ball according to CAF is designed to meet the highest standards in the game and has simple technological features including a smart panel configuration. The ball has been approved for the game by the World football governing body FIFA.
