Former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has launched his social-media platform known as Truth Social.
According to the BBC, Truth Social was launched, “in a limited form, on the US Apple App Store”.
What does Truth Social look like ?
The new app has some similar features with Twitter. Some users have particularly identified the reply, and retweet buttons as well as the “like” function which look like those of Twitter.
Some users who first signed up reported some difficulties with registering accounts. Reuter’s news agency reports that some of them were informed that ; “Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist”.
But last week, Donald Trump Jr shared a screenshot of his father’s first post on the social network which said, “Get ready. Your favourite president will see you soon.”
According to Devin Nunes, head of the Project, and former congressman, Mr. Trump’s Truth Social is expected to be fully operational by the end of March.
Truth Social has been created by the one-year-old Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG).
The app describes itself on its website as a “‘big tent’ social-media platform that encourages an open, free and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology”.
The Project Head, Mr Nunes adds that “Truth Social” will be a “censorship-free experience”.
Truth Social is hosted on App Store. All social-media platforms on the App Store, and Google Play are required to pull down content that goes against laid down rules.
Many are worry that Truth Social may be removed from the US AppStore of it becomes an uncensored platform.
The creation of the new app comes one year after the former President was banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Twitter banned the Mr. Trump following the 2021 US Capitol riot on January 6, stating that he had gone against rules on the glorification of violence.
