North West: Senator Mundi Regains Freedom
CPDM Senator, Regina Mundi for Momo in the North West Region has been released from separatist captivity.
She was freed following a military operation in some separatists hideouts in Ashong, Batibo subdivision that also saw the release of other hostages, neutralization of over a dozen separatist fighters and the seizure of improvised explosive devices.

Following her release, the Ministry of Defense issued a press statement reiterating that operation was carried out on the basis of intelligence previously gathered and cross-checked.
They also saluted the collaboration of the populations that facilitated their work. A detachment made up of units of the Defense and Security Forces stormed the site in the morning of Sunday May 29, 2022 in an operation to free to hostages held captive in Ashong, Batibo subdivision in Momo division of the North West region.
Some of the victims had been abducted about a month ago.
The Rescue Operation
The communique from the Ministry of Defence detailed out that the operation was carried out at night.
The military approached on the evening of Monday, May 30, 2022 and were welcome by heavy gunfire from a heavily armed gang of separatist fighters who attempted to halt the progress of the Defence and Security forces.
In the midst of the gun battle, some of their separatist fighters tried to escape with the hostages held captive.
The Defense and Security Forces used appropriate and professional response to put them out of harm’s way with.
Assessment of the Operation
The release from the Ministry of Defence also highlighted:
– several hostages released, including Senator Regina Mundi;
– a dozen terrorists neutralized, and several others injured and on the run;
– 03 terrorists captured;
– several assault rifles and ammunition of various calibers seized;
– 14 Improvised Explosive Devices seized and defused;
– an all-terrain pick-up vehicle used by the terrorist gang seized;
– the vehicle of Senator Regina MUNDI recovered.
The Ministry of Defense after this operation reassures that the valiant Defense and Security Forces, committed to the defense of the National Territorial Integrity, the protection of populations and their property, as well as the restoration of peace wherever it is threatened throughout the national triangle, are determined to pursue their missions with courage, honour and loyalty.
They stated that they count on the constant collaboration of the populations and of all the living forces of the country.
