FIFAWC2022: Senegal rekindle hopes of African teams

A 3-1 victory over host, Qatar imposed by the Teranga Lions of Senegal later this Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Al Thumaman Stadium brings a hope and a sigh of relieve to the five African countries at the World who failed to register a win in the first set of the games at the World Cup.

Tunisia played a goalless game with Denmark,  the Atlas Lions of Morocco settled on a virgin score with Croatia, Senegal was humbled on 2-0 score by Netherlands, Ghana separated with Ronaldo’s  Portugal on 3-1 while Cameroon lost 1-0 to Switzerland.

The victory for Senegal comes as the first for five African ambassadors in Qatar. The Teranga Lions   had a good and easy run for their money over the host Qatar.

The first goal of the second set games came at the 41st minute from  B. Dia helping the West African take the lead not knowing the second half was to kick-off with a second goal by F. Diedhiou who through his brilliance kept Senegal up at the 48 minutes of play

Aliou Cisse and his boys were having an easy ride before Muntari gave Qatar’s share of the spoils through a goal at the 78th minute but then Dieng made the hosts’ high expectations and the long wait short lived by scoring and talking Senegal’s goal tally to 3-1 some six minutes to full time.

Qatar counts two straight defeats a situation that has put them for exit, first team to be out of the one month big football tournament. Infact, Qatar will continue to play her role as the host while waiting for her lost group Game against Netherlands.

As at now, Netherland enjoys supremacy in Group A with three points but will face-off  Ecuador in their second Group Game.South American side of Ecuador is second with three points followed Senegal and then host,  Qatar.

Other African countries are still to line up for second set games but then, Tunisia and Morocco stand great chances with a point each while Ghana and Cameroon have a big road ahead of them.
