Governors Conference: Vigilance and Security Towards Festive Period

The second Semester conference of the ten Regional Governors has rounded off in Yaounde with Governors given instructions to step up vigilance to avert any act liable to jeopardize peace and tranquility during this festive period.

This was the underlined message of Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji, that was preceded by a presentation of recommendations arrived at during the two day conference.

The conference dwelled customarily on the security, political, economic and social situation of the nation on the eve of the end of year celebrations.

In this vein, he noted that the general issue of the Conference relates to the follow-up to the first half-yearly conference held on August 8 and 9, 2022, at the end of which the commitment had been made to ensure the maintenance of order in cities and countryside and to prevent disturbances to public order.

To do this, the Administrative Authorities as well as the Defense and Security Forces were notably urged to:
– remain alert;
– to encourage the collaboration of the populations within the framework of preventive intelligence;
– encourage the latter to set up vigilante groups, particularly in border areas, in order to fight against smuggling and the illicit trade in arms and ammunition, often intended for terrorists and other highwaymen.
– The fight against organized crime in allits forms and the consumption of drugs and narcotics, particularly in schools, should also be vigorously prosecuted.
