Parliament: Lower House Condemns “Scandals of the Republic”

Members of the National Assembly has vehemently condemned crimes and unruly attitudes that has gone a long way to tarnish the image of the country.

They made their points clear to the powers that be at the opening plenary of the March session of parliament at the National Assembly for the 2023 legislative year.

In the opening ceremony attended by Cabinet ministers and members of the diplomatic corp, the eldest member of the lower house, Hon. Laurentine Koa Mfegue epse Mbede, heading the provisional bureau delivered the opening speech.

In her speech, she addressed what she termed “Scandals of the Republic.”
Amongst these scandals,

– the scandal concerning the Project to Construct the Olembe Sports Complex;
– the scandal concerning the management of COVID-19 funds;
– the scandal concerning the Yaounde – Douala Motorway Construction Works and plans to indemnify the riparian population;
– the scandal concerning the use of funds allocated to Budget Head No. 94 and Budget Head No. 65 of the Finance Law;
– the scandal concerning the murder of His Lordship Jean Marie Benoît BALLA, the erstwhile bishop of Bafia;
– the scandal concerning the murder of the reporter, Martinez ZOGO.
– She sternly said all these have to stop. She called on the powers that be to put and end to all these shameful acts giving the country a stained name.

To the youths, the house saluted the mobilization and enthusiasm shown in the celebration of the 57th edition of the National Youth Day.

The young people were reminded to shun deviant behaviors which are becoming rife in society.

Deviant behaviors such as incivility, consumption of narcotics and assault were stated.

Hon. Laurentine Koa Mfegue epse Mbede, called on the women folk in the house to honour the upcoming women’s day by celebrating responsibly and coming together in other to give the woman more say in society.

Members of parliament equally paid tribute to their late colleague, Hon. Bienvenue Tak of the East region who passed away in the December of 2022.
He headed the committee on Resolutions and Petitions at the National Assembly.
