Senatorial Elections : Vote Counting Commission Gets to Work
The vote counting commission has been installed, four days after the March 12 senatorial elections in Cameroon.
The commission was installed by the President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana, on March 16 in Yaoundé. He cautioned members of the commission to perform their duties with diligence and transparency.
Headed by Emile Essombe, the over 20-man squad is expected to count all the votes, verify figures and forward the proceedings to the constitutional council within five days for examination and publication.
The vote counting commission is made up of officials from the elections governing body; ELECAM, the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Constitutional Council, the judiciary and representatives of the ten political parties that took part in the elections.
The installation of the vote counting commission coincides with calls for the cancellation of the elections by some political parties.
