#U23AFCONQ: Cameroon Vs Gabon; The Match With The Coaches

The Coach of the Intermediate Lions of Cameroon dubbed Under 23, Guy Armand Feutchine and that of the visiting Gabonese squad, Saturnine IGnambi have all set the records clear while insisting that their teams will win and qualify for the for the 2023 U-23 AFCON in Morocco, come November 2023.


Both football tacticians faced the press this Monday, March 27 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, a day to the final round qualifier to be fielded at the same stadium. Cameroon was edged 1-0 during the away leg of the game in Franceville on Gabon on Saturday, March 25

The host team, Cameroon will have to win with a cumulative difference to keep their hopes alive in their journey for the 2023 U23 AFCON if not they will toe the line and bow out of the November expedition in North Africa.

Cameroon’s chances are very limited, the Intermediate Lions played a 2-3 game with Angola in the second round of the qualifiers and played a virgin game in the return leg in Yaounde to win on 3-2 aggregate. Gabon humbled Cameroon 1-0 back in Franceville, Gabon in the away leg.

What The Coaches Said

Thirty minutes of truth for the coaches, who came alongside a player each to face the local and international press in the Conference room of the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo. A very good time for the football tacticians and the players to unveil the winning strategies in a very crucial game to be fielded this Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 4 pm local time.

First to face the press was Cameroon’s Armand Guy Feutchine who says he is very confident of his boys and reassures that Cameroon will overpower her host and sail through to the final qualification of the 2023 U-23 AFCON in Morocco

“All the players are in a good state of mind to represent Cameroon tomorrow. We have been preparing for the double confrontations since February 23, 2023. We have some blames on the refereeing during our away match against Gabon where we lost 1-0 but we have learnt lessions and we will play a mind game on our adversary tomorrow come 4 pm

“Tomorrow at 6 pm we will be celebrating our victory against Gabon and a possible qualification. Though we respect our opponent, we still remain Cameroon, optimistic, focused and ready to win. We will be playing 300% and if we score early that will be fine and good, Head Coach of U23 Lions”, Guy Armand Feutchine

He was accompanied by Fidel Brice Ambina, who says they are not under pressure though with one goal down


‘We don’t have pressure. We adapt on the system of the adversary. Our objective is to play and win because we have been preparing for long, plus the players are calm and ready for the match tomorrow against Gabon”

Meanwhile the Head Coach of Gabon, Saturnine IGnambi who he came alongside his captain, Emmanuel Ovono Essogo, is very sure they will record yet a victory and grab a qualification ticket for Morocco

“Our scenario will be to play and win. We want to give in our best back here in Yaounde. You know matches are not won in advance, there are efforts to be made because matches are never the same. Our objective is to qualify, that is the mindset we left Gabon with”.
