76th World Health Assembly: Cameroonian Delegation and Experts Revise International Health Regulations

Health experts from Cameroon taking part in the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA) have joined WHA delegates, WHO experts, representatives of civil society and partner agencies to revise the international Health Regulations.

The theme for the 76th World Health Assembly is “WHO at 75: Saving lives, driving health for all.”

Cameroon’s delegation at the international meeting is led by the country’s Public Health Minister, Dr. Manaouda Malachie.

The Cameroonian delegation comprised four key health experts from the Ministry of Public Health; Dr. Georges Alain Etoundi Mballa (Director for the Fight against Diseases, Epidemics and Pandemics), Dr. Moussi Charlotte (Technical Adviser no 2 at the Ministry), Prof Eugene Sobngwi (Director for the Organization of Healthcare and Technology) and Dr. Zeh Kakanou (Head of the Division of Cooperation at the Ministry).

In addition to revising the International Health Regulation, the experts are discussing current and future priorities for public health issues of global importance.

The World Health Assembly began on May 21. On the second day of the conference, the experts focused on strengthening solidarity and health systems, improving investment and making health systems resilient. They have also discussed how to strengthen  health emergency response as well as child and mother health.

 The World Health Assembly

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization. It is attended by WHO Member States in Geneva, Switzerland. Every year, the body meets to discuss a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board.

The World Health Assembly is responsible for determining policies of the organization, appointing the Director General, supervising financial policies, and approving budgets.

This year’s World Health Assembly will run from May 21 to 30, 2023.
