Fire Ravages Sections of Messasi and Elig-Edzoa Markets
Parts of the Messasi and Elig-Edzoa markets have been ravaged by fire, leaving behind extensive material damage.
The fire at the Messasi market broke out in the early hours of Monday May 29, 2023.
Eyewitness of the incident say they suddenly saw flames around the affected area around 2am, and alerted a few people around who helped put out the fire.
The fire had already consumed over half a dozen stores at the furniture lane of the market.
Owners of the shops say it is a loss they can hardly recover from.
Me. Songo, a furniture shop owner this Tuesday May 30 morning could be see looking through the debris in an attempt to recover some items.
He said the fire has crumbled his business which he had invested a lot in.
The victim added that he will have to let the two employees he has go for lack of funds to continue the business and pay salaries.
A similar situation prevails at the Elig-Edzoa market in Yaoundé.
Shop owners in this market say a fire incident equally ravaged more than 27 shops in the morning of May 29, 2023.
Just like Messasi, the cause of the fire incident is yet to be determined.
Victims of the fire incident say they have lost the source of their livelihoods, and are only looking up to faith for recovery.
