Cameroon’s Consulate in Calabar, Nigeria joined in the National Day celebrations in pomp and style.
The official celebration of the 51st Anniversary of Cameroon’s National Unity (20th May 2023) was hosted in Calabar by the Consulate, on Saturday, May 20, 2023, with a sit-down dinner party hosted by Patrice Onana, Consul of the Republic of Cameroon to Calabar.
It took place at the 520 Kolanut Conference and Events Centre, 05 Barracks Road, Calabar.
Present to grace the event was Dr. Innocent Ekeng, Permanent Secretary to the SSG who was representing the Governor of the Cross River State.
Over 50 local administrative authorities, heads of civil society groups, military and paramilitary services, religious leaders, traditional rulers and a host of Nigerian friends of Cameroon were also present.
The Cross River State Chapter of the Cameroonian Community in Nigeria (CCN), as well as family groups and associations were also present.
H.E. Patrice Onana, who, did not only welcome all the dignitaries present, but reviewed the history of the unification of Cameroon, stressing that Cameroon is one and indivisible.
He equally called on all Cameroonians to continue to be law-abiding and good ambassadors of the nation.
He then thanked the outgoing authorities of the Cross River State for their generous hospitality and protection while expressing the hope that the incoming administration shall continue to work in collaboration with the Consulate to facilitate its mission in Nigeria.
In a moving response, the Representative of the Governor of the Cross River State recalled the strong and diverse ties that bind the people of his State and Cameroon, and promised that the next team of authorities of the state shall continue to work in close collaboration with the Consulate to strengthen existing bonds between them.
The event was equally graced with a buffet of assorted Cameroonian dishes and traditional dances as well as comedy.
The next phase of the celebration shall take place in Rivers State Port Harcourt on Saturday, May 27, 2023, hosted by the Consulate and the Cameroon Community there.
It shall also be graced by local authorities, friends of Cameroon and the River State Chapter of the Cameroon Community (CCN) with over 150 guests including the Cameroon Consulate staff.
The special dinner will take place at Las Mall Hotel Resort, Rumukalagbor 500101 Port Harcourt.
A major highlight shall be a gala football match and later on speeches from the Consul, the representative of the Governor of the Rivers State and other Cameroonian leaders in attendance at the evening dinner party.
