Secondary Education: Students Drilled on Post-School Career Opportunities

Final year students of Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Emana in Yaounde and its surrounding schools have received orientation towards what academic route to take after the final year exams.

The students received these orientation lessons during a career fair organised by the Guidance Counselling Service of GBHS Emana this May 5, 2023.

The fair on the theme, “Guidance Counselling and Professionalisation of Jobs: For Professional Insertion”, was open to various institutions to showcase their offers to excited students.

A Senior Guidance Counsellor at GBHS Emana, Harriet Mbuh explained that this is the second time the school is organising a career fair.

She added that they invited students from other schools around so that they too could benefit from the orientation lessons.

On her part, the Principal of GBHS Emana, Dr Emilia Vefonge lauded the initiative of the Guidance Counsellors.

The Mfoundi Divisional Delegate for Secondary Education, Alain Louis Nama Essomba added his voice to that of the Principal, saying the fair will enable the students make better choices.

A Lower Sixth Science Student, Fonsah Shabrine indicated her joy with the organisation of the fair.

“We, Students in Lower Sixth always face difficulties in choosing fields that easily lead to jobs. Events like this guide us on what to study after the GCE,” she explains.

The students hope the career fair has come to stay so that they could always have orientation before their final year examination.
