ASMAC : Golden jubilee celebrations officially begin in Yaounde
The fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC) have officially begun this October 18, 2023 in Yaounde.
Cameroon’s Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, personal representative of the Head of State, Paul Biya, officially opened the celebrations at the Yaounde Conference Centre.

He was accompanied by a special guest of the jubilee ceremony, the Minister of Communication the Republic of Chad, Aziz Mahamat Saleh.
The event kick started with a welcome address from the Director of ASMAC’s Prof. François Marc Modzom. He heartily welcomed guests to the event and extended heartfelt gratitude to a wide range of persons involved in the organization of the event. One of them was his predecessor, Prof. Alice Nga Minkala, former Director of ASMAC.
“Thank you Prof. Alice Nga Minkala. Thank you for game plan and the players you put at my disposition. I am the modest finisher of what you labored for,” Dr. François Marc Modzom, Director of ASMAC said.
Speaking at the event, the Rector of the University of Yaounde ll , Prof. Adolphe Minkoa She reminded ASMAC of its role in the growth of the University of Yaounde ll.
ASMAC is a professional institution which is under the tutelage of the University of Yaounde ll.
The Minister of Communication and personal representative of the Head of State was rather concerned with the respect for ethics and deontology.
“It’s a time for me to recall some principles that are necessary for the journalism profession. At the time when we see a lot of persons going astray, student journalists and those already in the field should not abandon the ethics and deontology of the profession,” Minister of Communication, Personal Representative of the Head of State said.
The speeches were closely followed by a series of tributes paid to the President of the Republic for his invaluable contributions to the successful organization of ASMAC’s golden jubilee celebrations. The session was coordinated by retired CRTV journalist, Dr. François Bengono Bengono.
Memories
One of the major highlights of the event was a documentary with alumni sharing fond memories of their stay at ASMAC . Some of the speakers were , Prof. Laurent Charles Assala Boyomo, Prof. Albert Mbida, Prof. Alice Nga Minkala, Prof. Celestin Ndembiyembe, Prof. Jean Nta À Bitang, Willy Niba, Christophe Mien Zok, Prof. François Marc Modzom, Ibrahim Cherif, Wain Paul Ngam, Charles Ndongo, Joe Chebonkeng, Emmanuel Wongibe. J. Monda Bakoa, Jean Paul Tchoudem , Prof. Corine Esse, Felix Zogo, Prof. Augustine Charles Mbia, Aime Robert Biyina, and many others .
Award of medals
Eight medals were awarded to staff of ASMAC. The recipients were grouped into three categories ; Commander of the Order of Valor, Officer of the Order of Valor and Knight of the Order of Valor.

Prof. Adolphe Minkoa She, Rector of the University of Yaounde ll and Prof. Francois Marc Modzom, Director of the Advanced School of Mass Communication ( ASMAC ) received the medal of the Commander of the Order of Valor. The medals were handed out by the Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, personal representative of the President the Republic during golden jubilee celebrations of ASMAC.
Prof. Laurent Charles Assala Boyomo, Former Director of ASMAC, Prof. Alice Nga Minkala, former Director of ASMAC, Prof. Jean Nta À Bitang, Deputy Director of ASMAC, and Prof. Jean François Nguegan, Head of the Radio Department all received medals of the Officer of the Order of Valor.
Prof. Alain Assomo, and Prof. Frédéric Ndibi, Secretary General and Bursar of ASMAC respectively receive the medal of Knight of the Order of Valor.
The anniversary celebrations continue with exhibition of some units of ASMAC, the election of a Miss golden jubilee, and colloquiums.
A ceremony to award certificates to the last five batches of students that have passed through the institution will crown the celebration on Friday, October 20 during a gala ceremony.
