Fewer cars on the streets, not typical of a Tuesday morning in Yaounde, is what I realised when I stepped out this Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
It is the morning after Christmas and many people are still recovering from Christmas Day celebration.
I board a taxi and observe the calmness of the morning.
Litter, unfortunately, has been abandoned at various roadside corners as households and relaxation spot owners have cleaned their spaces and brought the dirt to these spots. It is the hope of all that the waste management company arrives on time to rid the streets of this mess.
Most snackbars are either locked or being cleaned up, but there are some like this one I just bypassed, that still have customers drinking. You may call them early-morning customers but they may have actually crossed over from last night to this morning at the same spot.
As for hospitals downtown Yaounde, cases of indigestion were recorded a well cases of those who fell ill on Christmas Day, with some having had to spend the day at the hospital.
As for the decor across town, all is still intact with new posters and banners being put up by some advertisers, beckoning to customers, ahead of New Year’s Eve and New Year Day.
