Youth and Civic Education : Role models of youth entrepreneurship receive awards

Over a dozen young people, known as the “Chamber of Icons of Youth Entrepreneursship” (CIEL) have received awards for their leading role in entrepreneurship.

Before receiving the awards, the youth entrepreneurs were installed by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, and personal representative of the Prime Minister, Mounouna Foutsou, during the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Exibition for the Promotion of Youth Entrepreneurship (SIPROME Jeunes ).

The twin events held in Yaoundé on December 11, 2023.

The International Exibition is holding on the theme, “Resilience and Competitiveness of young companies in the era of globalization: Challenges and Opportunities of the African Continental Free Trade Area”. SIPROME Jeunes will run from  December 6-16, 2023 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex. A total of 1000 exhibitors, and 60,000 visitors are expected at the event.

The award winners, from the 10 regions of the country and the diaspora are the 2023 best young entrepreneurs, outstanding youth leaders and development actors for their role in contributing to the achievement of the SND 30. A financial package of about FCFA 60,000,000 will be  distributed to winners of contests and challenges organized to mark the event.

The innovative youths are entrepreneurs in the following sectors; agro-food, agro-industry, technology, renewable energy, digital economy, communication, arts and crafts and other sectors.

SIPROME Jeunes : Entrepreneurship on showcase

SIPROME Jeunes 2023 brings the role models together to showcase the creativity and innovations of young Cameroonian entrepreneurs.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education says entrepreneurship is a tool to fight unemployment.

“We organized challenges to show the youths that entrepreneurship is the best way to make it in life. We hope the innovations this year have contributed to changing the minds of our young people so that they can better contribute to the development of our country.”

While presiding over the event, Minister Mounouna Foutsou told the youths to make it a point of duty to contribute to national development projects.

“We will also keep reminding youths from the 10 regions of Cameroon, and the diaspora of their leading role in contributing to the achievement of the National Development Strategy for 2030 (SND30), he said.

SIPROME-Jeunes is an initiative aimed at creating an enabling environment for socio-economic empowerment, entrepreneurship among young people to  permit them contribute to economic growth and sustainable development. It is run by young people with the supervision of Public authorities.

Youth Connekt : Fours years on

The 4th year of the Cameroon Youth Connekt initiative is being celebrated alongside SIPROME Jeunes, with loads of achievements.

Youth Connekt was created to connect Cameroonian youths to socio-economic opportunities and promote their full civic and political inclusion.

Cameroon’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education initiated the Youth Connekt program in December 2019 in collaboration with, UNESCO, UNDP, UN Women, Fondation Puene, UNFPA, and leaders of youth organizations, among them, the National Youth Council of Cameroon.

Four years after the project was set up, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, says the initiative has been pivotal in “strengthening the employability of nearly 5,000 young people, support for the creation and development of 448 youth companies, several of which are currently present at SIPROME-Jeunes, the connection of nearly 1,300,000 local and diaspora youth in dialogues with decision-makers, more than 1,000 young people with leadership and peace buildings skills, among whom 500 ambassadors of peace, the involvement of 800 young people in voluntary initiatives and community action as well as the awareness-raising of 16,400 young people on family and reproductive health.”

The Youth Connekt initiative is drawing to an end, but the extension phase will begin in 2024 with emphasis on entrepreneurial opportunities, the promotion of peace, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence, and networking among young people.
