Governors Plan Safe End of Year, Anticipate 2024 at Second Bi-annual Conference

Security issues, fuel shortage, water crisis and power outages amongst other things are under discussion at the Second Bi-annual Conference of Regional Governors holding in Yaounde from December 19 to 20, 2023.

The two-day Conference has as theme, Administrative Authorities: Security Issues and Socio-economic Challenges”.

Opening the conclave at the Yaounde City Council Hall, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji condemned the killing of about 80 women by their partners this 2023.

He frowned at the situation and cautioned men to be disciplined and be exemplary heads of their homes.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji and the ten Regional Governors in Cameroon have been exchanging on security issues, fuel shortage, water crisis, power outages and other problems within chiefdoms. This was at the start of the Second Bi-annual Conference of Regional Governors scheduled to hold from December 19 to 20, 2023. The Minister also used the forum to condemn the killing of about 80 women this year due to domestic violence.

The Territorial Administration Boss also indicated that discussions at the conference will centre on roadside drugs, urban disorder, setting order in the motor bike sector and looking at projects earmarked for 2024.

The Secretary of State for Defence in charge of the Gendarmerie and the Delegate General for National Security also took the floor to present a joint statement on measures taken or envisioned by the National Gendarmerie and the Police to ensure security during the festive season.

Discussions then ensued at the Hilton Hotel where each Governor presented a report on activities in his jurisdiction.

At the end of this Second Bi-annual Conference of Regional Governors, a list of recommendations will be drafted towards safe end of year festivities and a bright 2024.
